AlderWood Preschool

A play-based, loving, child-centered preschool in NE Portland

At AlderWood we strive to have the lowest environmental impact that we can.

We practice protecting the environment in the following ways:

  • We use cloth rags and napkins to reduce waste.

  • We buy bulk foods with reusable containers, when possible, to reduce packaging.

  • We buy recycled-fiber toilet paper to reduce deforestation.

  • We recycle all that we can. Flexible plastics, that cannot be left curbside, are taken to a facility for recycling.

  • We opt for biodegradable materials when buying toys and furniture, when possible.

  • We buy local food to reduce oil consumption and emissions.

  • We grow some of our own foods.

  • We pay into our gas company’s Smart Energy program to support renewables.

  • We use water and electricity conservatively.
